Agricultural Barn and Large Bespoke Extension

The site lies to the South of Lenham, near Maidstone and comprises of a detached one and a half storey bungalow, together with a detached barn and garages and other equestrian outbuildings set in approximately 3 acres.

Kent Design Studio were approached by our client in 2013 to look at three individual projects on the same site, from concept through to completion.

 

1. Replacement of agricultural barn to include new Chiropody Clinic – A derelict barn occupied a paddock on the site, and seeing the potential to develop the area further our client asked us to look at an insulated replacement barn to store hay and machinery for their equestrian needs, together with a new Chiropody Clinic at one end to allow them to relocate their existing business in the nearby village closer to home. Since the conversion, the Chiropody Clinic is in full operation and all of the Client’s customers have complemented the new facilities.

 

2. Two storey extension and extensive alterations to the main house – The main house was a nondescript, one and a half storey bungalow, of a scale and mass that was not proportionate to it’s setting. The client enjoys outdoor living and the setting of the site, and wanted to make the most of this, together with re-configuring the internal space dramatically to give an open plan feel, as the existing layout was typical of a bungalow with small, individual rooms.

Kent Design Studio set out to exceed the clients brief with the introduction of a double height space lounge and fully glazed gable wall, together with multiple roof lights to create a sense of space and connection with the surrounding countryside. In Addition, an internal balcony accessed off of the master bedroom was created, allowing views panoramic views over the Downs to the North, and nature reserve to the South.

All of the above were carried out by Kent Design Studio from initial thoughts through to completion, and included the production of full concept CGI internal and external images, on site assistance for the contractor and general project management for the Client.
